The Italian elected officials are not angry with the tourist offices of the Tarn, after the latter have baptized part of the department the “Occitan Tuscany”. The controversy even came to the European Parliament.
It is a perched village, with narrow streets, with an ancient fortification, and hills lined with vineyards. Welcome to Cordes-sur-Ciel (Tarn), in “Western Tuscany”tane”, In France. These are two landscapes, two places, for the same mythical name. Gaillac and Cordes-sur-Ciel decided a year ago to to rename “western tuscanytane”, arguing about the resemblance to Italy. The tourist offices have highlighted the Tuscany appellation, to the great displeasure of the Italians.
“There is no cheating”
They discovered it recently. A MEP Italian cries foul, and the unfair and fraudulent use of the word Tuscany. “The Occitan Tuscany does not exist. Tuscany is Tuscany. I‘Occitanie is another region”highlights NicolTo Danyou. The elected officials of the Tarn estimate doing things the right way. “There is no cheating and no usurpation”says Paul Salvador, president of the tourist office “La Toscane occitane”. They say they are prepared for any legal situation.
