The priority sectors for setting a floor price in order to respond to the anger of farmers are “the dairy sector and the meat sector“, estimates Agnès Pannier-Runacher, Minister Delegate to the Minister of Agriculture, guest this Friday noon on the show Ma France on France Bleu. President Emmanuel Macron announced last Saturday at the opening of the Agricultural Show the implementation implementing floor prices to guarantee a decent income for farmers.

Prices below which food manufacturers, processors and distributors will not be able to go. But the Minister for Agriculture, Agnès Pannier-Runacher, believes that “not all sectors can necessarily fit into this logic“.”This step forward must be for all contracts and for the sectors that need it“, she adds.

“That it protects farmers”

In emergencies, the minister lists as priorities “the dairy sector and the meat sector“which are today affected by the Egalim law, supposed to protect farmers’ income.”In milk, 90% of volumes are contracted, in meat it is only 25%“, explains the minister. As for cereal growers, bring them into the Egalim law, “It’s a job we have to do with them. I am not going to make farmers happy in spite of themselves“, continues Agnès Pannier-Runacher.

“It is sector by sector that we must build our public policy approach and ensure that each solution is adapted to each sector”

What we want is for this to apply and to protect farmers and to strengthen their balance of power vis-à-vis large retailers and processors. In the end, what matters is that there is income in the farmyards and that it is consistent with the investments and the expenses to be paid.“, concludes the Minister Delegate.
