For Washington, there is no reason to believe that his death was intentional. These conclusions immediately gave rise to contrasting reactions. Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip, has called for an international investigation and accused the United States of being “accomplices” of the journalist’s death.
Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid, in a statement, regretted the death “tragic” of Shireen Abu Akleh and claimed that the Jewish state investigation had concluded that“there had been no intention to harm him”. For its part, the journalist’s family said “appalled” of the absence of a formal conclusion as to the origin of the shooting, in a press release shared on Twitter.
