The United Kingdom went on red alert for the heat wave on Sunday July 17. Journalist Maëlys Septembre takes stock of the situation from a beach in Bournemouth (England).
The high heat does not only hit France. The United Kingdom went on red alert for the heat wave on Sunday July 17. From a beach in Bournemouth, in the south of England, Maëlys Septembre explains that “the British rushed to the coast to try to escape this intense heat wave“. “It will be the loudest on record in UK history.”
On British territory, temperatures will sometimes exceed 40 degrees, as in London. “The British are not used to these high temperatures and the infrastructures are not always adapted”, adds Maëlys Septembre. Authorities have warned that some roads could melt and train lines could be interrupted. Some walls had to be covered with an anti-heat fabric to prevent them from cracking. Britons are advised to stay at home and limit their outings to essential activities.
