Wearing a uniform among students is difficult to convince. Some municipalities have backpedaled under pressure from parents and educational staff. Others are ready to launch the experiment as quickly as possible.
Black pants, white polo shirt and gray sweater. The uniform was tried on by 719 students from schools in Béziers (Hérault). On the chest is the coat of arms of their establishment. The uniform is designed as a shield against harassment. “That way, we can’t criticize the outfit since we have the same ones”, underlines a student. The city is the first to try it. On February 26, clothing will be compulsory in four schools, under penalty of dismissal.
The price of the outfits estimated at 200 euros
The experiment was to involve around a hundred communities. But the unique outfit is not unanimous. Schools in Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône), Le Mans (Sarthe), or Cusset (Allier), were to try it, before giving up. When consulted, the parents or students declined the proposal. In Côtes-d’Armor, opponents demonstrated in front of a school. Parents denounce in particular the price of the outfits, estimated at 200 euros. According to them, the uniform would erase neither inequalities nor harassment.
