“50 years ago, there was a state secretariat for penitentiary conditions and it was important politically, and also to highlight the importance that we gave to our prisons”, explains Wednesday May 29 on franceinfo Jean-François Fogliarino, secretary general of the National Union of Prison Directors CFDT. Two weeks after the escape of inmate Mohamed Amra in Incarville (Eure), during which two prison officers were shot dead, the union is asking the Ministry of Justice to recreate a state secretariat for penitentiary conditions.
In front of “the current state of prison overcrowding”Jean-François Fogliarino calls for “the recreation of this type of structure which would allow us to have a political interlocutor in the government for our proposals for improving prison conditions for prisoners and also, of course, for staff”.
