Employment was little changed in November in Canada, increasing only 0.1%, and the unemployment rate increased by 0.1 percentage point to 5.8%, continuing the upward trend that had begun last April.

Statistics Canada adds that in Quebec, employment fell by 0.5% and the unemployment rate increased by 0.3 percentage points to 5.2%, which was 1.3 percentage points higher to the record low of 3.9% recorded in November 2022 and January of this year.
Nationally, the federal agency observed that employment increased last month by 1.6% in the manufacturing sector and 1% in the construction sector. On the other hand, a decline of 0.9% was recorded in wholesale and retail trade, and of 1.3% in finance, insurance, real estate services and rental and leasing services.
In New Brunswick, employment increased 0.6% in November after recording an identical increase in October. In the 12 months ending last month, employment in the province increased 4% and in November the unemployment rate was 6.4%, down from 0. 8 percentage points compared to November 2022 and 0.2 compared to last October.
According to Statistics Canada, from last October to November, the unemployment rate increased from 6.6% to 6.8% in Nova Scotia and from 6.2% to 8.1% in Prince Island. -Édouard.
