The unemployment rate at a record low of 3.8% in November in Quebec

Employment was little changed in November in Canada and the unemployment rate fell 0.1 percentage point to 5.1%.

According to Statistics Canada, employment rose by 10,000 across the country and rose among core-aged women aged 25 to 54. It fell among young men aged 15 to 24 and changed little in the other major demographic groups.

Statistics Canada adds that in Quebec, the unemployment rate has reached a new record low of 3.8%.

The federal agency specifies that in Quebec, employment increased by 28,000 in November, or 0.6%. The employment gains observed were concentrated in the Montreal region, where employment increased by 1.1% and the unemployment rate was unchanged at 4.2%.

Employment in Ontario was little changed in November. The unemployment rate fell 0.4 percentage points to 5.5%.

The unemployment rate rose from 6.7% to 7.3% from October to November in New Brunswick. During the same period, it jumped from 4.9% to 6.2% in Prince Edward Island, but fell from 6.7% to 6% in Nova Scotia.

Meanwhile, Statistics Canada reports that Canada-wide, 12-month growth in average employee hourly wages remained above 5% for a sixth consecutive month in November, up 5.6%, or 1 $.71 to reach $32.11 from November 2021.
