The unemployment rate at a record low in Quebec

28,000 jobs were created in Quebec in November, and the unemployment rate fell to a record low of 3.8%.

The rise in jobs is concentrated in the Montreal metropolitan area, where employment is up by 25,000, according to Statistics Canada. The unemployment rate in the Montreal area remained unchanged at 4.2% last month.

In Canada, employment increased by only 10,000 and the unemployment rate fell by 0.1 points to 5.1%.

Employment rose in Quebec, but fell in five provinces, including Alberta and British Columbia.

The labor market had surprised the previous month, with a net creation of more than 100,000 jobs, and most economists expected a decline in November. The labor market is therefore proving to be more resilient than expected despite inflation and interest rate hikes.
