The Ukrainian dossier at the heart of discussions between the United States and Russia

Vladimir Putin and Joe Biden have already spoken on the phone twice since the start of the Ukrainian crisis. While discussions are to take place in Switzerland, Monday, January 10, between the two parties, the Kremlin calls for a NATO commitment not to integrate Ukraine and the withdrawal of American troops. But Washington is not ready to downsize in Europe and threaten on the contrary, to strengthen them if Moscow goes on the offensive.

“Putin will not have everything he asks for, because the Americans will not be able to officially grant him that Ukraine does not join NATO, but one can think that he will have satisfaction”, confides Pascal Boniface, director of the Institute of International and Strategic Relations. The Kremlin is maintaining the pressure with 100,000 men massed on the Ukrainian border. “Putin is upping the ante for benefits. There is no direct military conflict to fear. Russia is not about to invade Ukraine “, assures Pascal Boniface.
