German Leopard 2 tanks will reach the forests in eastern Ukraine by spring 2023. They will replace old Soviet tanks that have broken down due to a lack of spare parts. On the ground, to counter the Russian army, Ukrainian soldiers are waiting for new equipment. “I will be really happy with a more modern and more comfortable tank. The shooting capacity and the damage inflicted on the enemy will be better”says Igor, a young tanker who joined the Ukrainian army at the start of the war, Wednesday, February 8.

Fight the Russians on equal terms

Igor expects to be able to fight the Russians on equal terms, with equipment that could change the course of the war. “Things on the pitch will change for us, but especially for the Russians. (…) They have to understand that it’s almost over for them.”, says Igor. Tanks, rocket launchers and solar missiles should be delivered to the Ukrainian army by the end of April, as promised by the United States and several European countries.
