On Friday 23 and Saturday 25 September, the Normandy World Peace Forum takes place. For this fifth edition called “Down with the walls! These confinements that make wars.” The Ukrainian Ambassador to France, Vadym Omelchenko participated in a round table this Friday where he spoke about the situation in Ukraine, international solidarity, but also Vladimir Putin’s policy.
Our hopes on the Ukrainian people
This Wednesday the Russian president called on the reservists to fight in Ukraine, which provoked a wave of demonstrations in the country. But for Ambassador Vadym Omelchenko, this uprising will not change the conflict :“For a while we were hoping that it was really the Russian people who were doing things to stop the war. But when the full-scale invasion started we saw that 75% of Russians supported Vladimir Putin’s actions. such a situation it was impossible to imagine that the Russian population would do anything to stop the war. We have lost this illusion and today we rest our hopes on the Ukrainian people, on the Ukrainian army, on our partners and on solidarity.
