A water bomber plane crashed on Tuesday July 25 in the south of the island of Euboea (Greece) while battling one of the fires currently ravaging the country, Yannis Artopios, spokesman for the Greek fire service, told AFP. The aircraft, of the Canadair type, “fell near Platanisto”, a village on this island, he said. Both pilots, members of the country’s air force, died, the Greek Defense Ministry said. Images of the crash were broadcast by the public broadcaster ERT.

On their site, the Greek firefighters had alerted on a “extreme risk” of fire for the day of July 25 in six regions of the country (Attica, Central Greece, Peloponnese, Western Greece, Thessaly, Central Macedonia). Aerial surveillance patrols continue, as well as fire, police and army patrols.specifies the press release of the emergency services published Tuesday morning.

On the rest of the territory, “Fire service personnel remain on full alert, in order to cope with increased service demands, which have arisen due to the large number of fires” ravaging the country, where the minimum risk level is 3, specify the emergency services. “We still have three difficult days ahead of us” because of high temperatures, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis warned on Monday in a speech to parliament.
