The two palm trees of Place Montcalm in Nîmes reduced to dust

The roots of two palm trees were reduced to dust this Wednesday early afternoon on Place Montcalm in downtown Nîmes. The diseased trees had already been felled in the previous months. They were victims of Paysandisia Archon, a small butterfly larva that feeds on the heart of the palm tree and ends up causing its irreparable death. There is now only one palm tree left in this square. Eventually, the trees will be replaced by other varieties that are more resistant and less water-hungry.
