After more than two days of research, the bodies of the two mountaineers who disappeared on Saturday November 5 in the Vanoise massif (Savoie) were found on Monday November 7 at the start of the afternoon, indicates France Bleu Pays de Savoie. Mountain rescuers located their bodies at the bottom of a crevasse at the foot of the north face of La Grande Casse.
The two mountaineers, aged 21 and 26 and from Brittany and the Paris region, had spent the night from Friday to Saturday at the Col de la Vanoise refuge before starting the ascent of the north face of the highest Savoyard peak, the Grande Casse (3,855 m above sea level). According to the first elements of the investigation, they were victims of a wind slab.
Rescue organized the first search by helicopter on Saturday before nightfall. They resumed on Sunday, still by helicopter, but also on the ground, piloted by the high mountain gendarmerie platoon (PGHM) from Modane. Search operations had resumed on Monday morning.
