Social security number, marital status, information on mutual insurance… This is the kind of personal data stolen during a large-scale cyberattack. According to the CNIL, 33 million policyholders are affected. The hackers targeted the platforms of Viamedis and Almerys, the two main third-party payment operators who work with mutual insurance companies. It is these operators that health professionals question to find out whether or not they grant third-party payment to an insured person.
The CNIL will carry out investigations
If it was a massive data theft, banking information, for example, would not have been stolen. Specialists recommend extreme caution. Be careful when responding to your emails and text messages. The CNIL announces that it will carry out investigations to understand how such hacking was possible.
