The passion of French tennis is winning the Masters Next Gen for the moment. After Arthur Fils, it was Luca Van Assche who qualified for the final four of the tournament in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia), Thursday November 30. The 19-year-old Frenchman beat the American Alex Michelsen after five sets (4-3, 3-4, 3-4, 4-1, 4-3). He is guaranteed to participate in the semi-finals of the tournament after Hamad Medjedovic’s victory against Abedellah Shelbayh (3-4, 4-2, 4-3, 4-2). The 19-year-old finished with a record of two wins and one loss.
The two Tricolores, seeded 1 and 2 in the tournament, will find themselves in the last four. Because before Luca Van Assche, Arthur Fils had ensured his qualification yesterday, in a slightly more calm manner, by finishing first in the green group after winning his three matches. The two young Frenchmen faced each other two years ago, in the final of the Roland-Garros juniors. The duel turned to the advantage of Luca Van Assche, in two sets. The other semi-final will see Dominic Stricker and Hamad Medjedovic face off.
