The two fires, which broke out late Sunday afternoon in the Dordogne at La Roche-Calais and Eygurande-et-Gardedeuil, are fixed, France Bleu Périgord learned from the Dordogne prefecture on Monday August 8 at morning. They destroyed nearly 110 hectares of the Double pine and coniferous forest. The Dordogne is classified as a severe fire risk.

The Eygurande-et-Gardedeuil fire ravaged around ten hectares. A fire set a little before the big fire in La Roche-Chalais which is a few kilometers away. According to the mayor of La Roche-Chalais, Jean Michel Sautreau, guest this morning from France Bleu Périgord, “the wind stopped and the night was rather calm” compared to what he feared. “Between 100 and 120 firefighters must remain on site this Monday”he adds, against 200 the previous day.

There were no injuries among the residents but the gendarmerie evacuated at least one house because of the smoke moving towards the home. “We must be very vigilant and the investigation work will continue to find the origin of these fires”concludes Jean Michel Sautreau.
