08:22 : First lull for the hundreds of firefighters in contact with the fire for more than a week. The monster fire, on the edge of the Arcachon basin, destroyed almost all of the “user forest” of La Teste. It is a forest with a special status, rare in France, and ancestral. This status dates from the Middle Ages, and its mode of management described as chaotic is clearly questioned. It greatly complicates the task of firefighters. Franceinfo explains why in this report.

The Landiras and La Teste-de-Buch fires hardly progressed overnight, reports France Bleu Gironde at 7:30 a.m. The La Teste-de-Buch fire, which burned just over 7,000 hectares, is contained. The Landiras fire has meanwhile progressed by 200 hectares and has now burned nearly 14,000 hectares.

07:18 : It’s been a week since the 4,000 inhabitants of Cazaux in La Teste-de-Buch had to leave their homes threatened by the flames of the fire ravaging the forest at the foot of the Pilat dune. Since then, day and night, the Arcachon police, helped by reinforcements from Bordeaux and CRS companies, have been keeping watch in the neighborhoods emptied of their inhabitants because of the threat of fire. France Bleu followed police officers on patrol in the deserted streets.

07:18 : How “rebuild” a forest ravaged by flames and how to live with this risk after a fire? The question will very quickly arise in Gironde. On the Ardèche side, after a fire in 2014, residents took matters into their own hands, accompanied by the National Forestry Office (ONF). Report by Etienne Monin.

07:26 : Here is an update on the essentials of the news already loaded at the start of the morning:

• Twelve departments in the south-east of France, from Haute-Savoie to the Alpes-Maritimes, are now placed on orange vigilance during the heat wave, according to the latest report from Météo France.

The deputies voted to increase pensions and social benefits by 4%, but also to deconjugalize the Disabled Adult Allowance (AAH), in a rare moment of unanimity since the laborious and conflicted start of the debates in the Assembly on the purchasing power bill.

• The Senate, dominated by the right, adopted overnight, at first reading, the health bill, after having restored the possibility of resorting to health checks on travellers. This article had been deleted by the deputies.

Emmanuel Macron promised the purchase of additional planes to fight the fires, during a trip to Gironde where he paid tribute to the firefighters. Here’s what to take away from his statements.
