The Lille prosecutor’s office communicated at the end of the morning on February 9: “The multiple investigations carried out since the opening of the investigation on January 5 led to the discovery yesterday (Wednesday February 8) of the Citroën C3 vehicle of the Di Gennaro couple immersed in the river port of St Saulve with two bodies inside the passenger compartment which correspond to the wanted persons. Technical and scientific police findings are continuing and autopsies are scheduled for this afternoon. The results of the latter will be communicated to the family as a priority.

The couple’s Citroën C3 had been located at the end of the afternoon, immersed in the canal, before being extracted at the start of the evening. Two bodies were inside the cabin, “which correspond to the persons sought”according to the prosecution.
The place where the car was found is outside the route between the town of Mairieux, near Maubeuge, from where the retirees left by car on January 1 and their destination of Roubaix, where their home is located.

An investigation had been opened on January 5 after the report of this disappearance by the sister of the spouse. A call for witnesses was launched on January 9.
