The two detainees who escaped from their cells at the Quiévrechain juvenile penitentiary (North) on the night of Sunday October 1 to Monday October 2, were arrested on Monday in Belgium, the Lille prosecutor’s office said. These minors, aged 17 and suspected of one of murder, the other of rape, “were arrested this evening in Belgium” and placed in police custody, said public prosecutor Carole Etienne.
During the night from Sunday to Monday, the two inmates sawed the bars of their cells before going down using their sheets. Hacksaw blades were discovered on site, a source close to the matter told France Bleu Nord. The two minors were awaiting trial. One is suspected of “rape at gunpoint” and the other of “attempted murder”.
“We are urgently asking for work, because it can’t go on any longer, we wonder what will happen next time”, worries Christophe Lecuyer, secretary of the CGT at the Quiévrechain juvenile penitentiary establishment, at the microphone of France Bleu Nord. Before their arrest, the Lille public prosecutor’s office had opened an investigation into organized gang escape. The two minors risk ten years in prison and a fine of 150,000 euros.
