In October 2021, a cargo ship from Brazil was stopped off Dunkirk (North). The boat over 180 meters was carrying more than a ton of cocaine. But the case continued after this seizure.
Half a ton of cocaine was found on October 26 in the cargo ship Trudy, in addition to the ton already found during the arrest on October 1, 2021 off Dunkirk (North). The boat, which remained in the city of the arrest, was re-crewed, and the sailors involved were arrested. On the night of October 11, a real coup de theater occurred.
Several men thwarted the security of the boat and took the new sailors hostage. “International cocaine smugglers target ports where they have reliable men, and places they know perfectly well”, explains Fréderic Ploquin, a journalist specializing in drug trafficking. The object of this fruitless search carried out by the hostage takers was another shipment of 529 grams of cocaine, which was found on October 26 by the Dutch authorities.
