the turnover of medical analysis laboratories jumped by 85%

The Covid-19 health crisis boosted the activity of medical biology laboratories for two years, to such an extent that their turnover jumped 85% between 2019 and 2020. This represents 9 billion euros . So, the Health Insurance had to pay 7 billion euros to finance the screenings carried out in private laboratories. But the government now wants to save money and lower laboratory prices.

The union of biologists, however, refuses to be stigmatized. “Being singled out, being a crisis profiteer, I find that this is not normal. We have fulfilled our public health mission, we have been there”defends François Blanchecotte, president of the union of biologists, for whom “lowering the tariffs for 2023 will have a direct consequence, namely that it will have a direct impact on current biology”, or acts other than those related to Covid. The amount of savings achieved could reach 200 million euros in the next social security budgete, which will be presented Monday, September 26 by the government.
