In Gaza, fighting continued unabated on Saturday, December 30. The Israeli priority remains to destroy the hundreds of kilometers of tunnels in which Hamas men operate.
Spectacular explosions in Gaza City. In a cloud of dust, one of Hamas’ strategic tunnels disappeared. The images are provided by the Israeli army. IDF soldiers are filmed 20 meters underground, pulling cables and planting explosives. According to the Israelis, the conduit housed the Hamas headquarters. 70% of the tunnels in the north of the enclave would be destroyed. There would nevertheless be many left in the South.
Flood the tunnels?
“Hamas has probably prepared several other complex structures like this, which have everything the commanders need. Ventilation, a sewage system and even showers.”, analyzes Harel Chorée, researcher at the Moshe Dayan center. The most sophisticated drones, robots, dogs and presence sensors are used to locate and advance through the tunnels. Another option would be to flood them with sea water. Israel does not communicate officially on this subject, but pumps have been installed on the beaches of Gaza.
