The true from the false. Does cider vinegar allow you to lose weight thanks to its “detergent” action?

In one of his TikTok videos entitled “Cider vinegar for weight loss”, former doctor Pierre Dukan recommends that his subscribers drink one to two spoonfuls of cider vinegar a day, because it is said to have slimming properties. Benefits that are exaggerated.

Pierre Dukan, a former nutritionist who was struck off by the College of Physicians, now publishes on TikTok. In one of his latest videos “Cider vinegar to lose weight”, he recommends his subscribers to drink one to two spoonfuls of cider vinegar a day, because it has several virtues. He explains that he exercises in particular “a detergent action on fat, the equivalent of what you do when you marinate fatty meat to degrease it”.

There are no “miracle foods” for weight loss

Should you drink apple cider vinegar to lose weight? This is what Jonathan Cohen, nutritionist doctor, answers : “No, cider vinegar does not make you lose weight. Moreover, no food makes you lose weight, from the moment it contains more than 0.0001 calories, it is caloric. So by definition it cannot make you lose weight “.

Yet Pierre Dukan suggests that cider vinegar helps dissolve fat, as “when you marinate fatty meat to defat it”. But this statement is misleading. Apple cider vinegar has many virtues, such as the ability to relieve heartburn, constipation, bloating and therefore reduce the volume of the belly. It also has a detergent, anti-bacterial action. But it does not burn fat cells. In fact, it can in a pinch decrease the feeling of hunger, with its acid and sweet taste which suppresses the appetite.

Pierre Dukan, former star of slimming diets

Pierre Dukan returned to TikTok in 2022, after being the star of slimming diets from 2000-2010. With his strict high-protein method, Pierre Dukabn explains in particular that he made François Hollande lose weight before the 2012 presidential campaign. But in 2009 the health security agency considered in an opinion that this type of diet was risky for people who are not not overweight.

In addition, the Order of Physicians accused him in particular of using his name to sell his books, diets and food products. Thus, Pierre Dukan has been sanctioned and has not been part of the Order of Physicians since 2012.
