On November 14, 2015, a test TGV derailed near Strasbourg, in Bas-Rhin, killing 11 people and injuring 42. More than eight years after the tragedy, the trial opens Monday March 4 and is scheduled to last until May 16.
Footage was taken three days before the accident. In a TGV Est engine, launched at more than 350 km/h, six employees were carrying out braking tests. This same train derailed on November 14, 2015, near Strasbourg (Bas-Rhin), leaving 11 dead and 42 injured. This is the most serious TGV accident in France. Excessive speed, 265 km/h instead of the recommended 176 km/h, and late braking were the causes of the derailment.
“I am waiting for the truth, for justice”
Railway workers, guests and families with minors were on board this test TGV. For the families of the victims, the trial, which opens Monday 4 p.m.ars, dmust answer questions left unanswered for several years. “I am waiting for the truth, for justice. There have been many mistakes”, confides a victim’s wife. SNCF and two of its subsidiaries, as well as an executive, a pilot and the main driver will be tried for injuries and involuntary manslaughter. The trial is scheduled to last until May 16.
