the trial of Jean-Marc Reiser will open on Monday in Bas-Rhin

For four years, Jean-Marc Reiser multiplied the versions, denied the facts, then partially recognized his involvement in the death of Sophie Le Tan. On the eve of the trial, Sunday, June 26, the victim’s family gives him almost no credit. “He has always lied from the start. (…) Even if he tells the truth, even if he tells truths, we will never really know if this is the case”comments Laurent Tran Van Mong, the cousin of the victim.

In September 2018, Sophie Le Tan, a young student, leaves the hotel where she works to visit an apartment in Strasbourg (Bas-Rhin). Quickly, she stops giving news to her relatives, with whom she nevertheless has an appointment to celebrate her 20th birthday. The investigators cross-reference the information, then come across a name: that of Jean-Marc Reiser, the author of the advertisements published on the apartment rental site.

The man was sentenced in 2001 to 15 years in prison for a series of rapes. Indicted, he denies any involvement, despite DNA traces found in his apartment. More than a year later, the girl’s body was found dismembered in the forest. He then confesses, but refutes any premeditated act. Jean-Marc Reiser faces life imprisonment.
