The trial of footballer Benjamin Mendy, accused of eight rapes, an attempted rape and a sexual assault, opens on Wednesday August 10 in Chester (United Kingdom). Aged 28, the French world champion denies the ten charges, which relate to facts that allegedly took place between October 2018 and August 2021 at his home in Prestbury. He is now accused by seven women.

Benjamin Mendy has been suspended since the start of the case by his club, Manchester City. He was imprisoned for more than four months in pre-trial detention, before being released in early January and placed under judicial supervision. The maximum sentence he faces is life imprisonment.

The footballer is on trial alongside another man, Louis Saha Matturie, prosecuted for eight rapes and four sexual assaults on eight women between July 2012 and August 2021. The latter also pleaded not guilty. Their trial, which was originally scheduled to open on July 25, should last fifteen weeks, according to the court. The first few days should be devoted to selecting jurors and organizing hearings.
