It is a very special Christmas 2021 which promises to be for the King Jouet store in Brignoles, as for the other toy brands: a Christmas between rising prices and shortages. But Christelle Mourier, manager of this 425m² structure, took the initiative by building up her stock for Christmas at the end of August! Most toys are therefore on the shelves (4,500 references in all) but there are still some missing : certain boxes of Lego, Pokémon belts and soft toys, Ladybug figures from Miraculous or even certain infants!
‘Every year we encounter stockouts on certain products but this year it is more complicated because the supply is lacking on more numerous references, in particular because of _slower manufacturing times_. There will surely be last minute deliveries but we do not know which toy or when they will arrive! “ explains the manager who notices that the parents started their Christmas shopping much earlier this year to be sure to find the gifts ordered.
This Christmas 2021 is also marked by a price increase certain toys, those that contain electronics or plastic: “The prices of raw materials are increasing. The price of transport and especially of sea containers is exploding! The repercussions will therefore necessarily be felt, we have no choice” admits Christelle Mourier.
Handmade wooden guitar, Manon and Johan recognize that“There will perhaps be a little less gifts under the tree this year. We go around the stores to compare the prices because if they increase, our budget remains the same”. According to an OpinionWay survey published on November 11, 2021, the average budget of the French will amount to € 282 this year and 51% of respondents announced thatthey will reduce the number of gifts this year.
