After Pas-de-Calais and Gironde, it is Charente-Maritime which is on orange alert. The town of Saintes has its feet in the water for the third time in a few months.
In Saintes (Charente-Maritime), the Charente overflows again. Impossible to move through the streets without beams. The scenario repeats itself just three months after the last flood, which affected a thousand houses. It’s “never seen”estimates Monday March 4 a resident, who admits to having “fed up”. He will hear from a neighbor who already had fifty centimeters of water in her house at the beginning of December.
Be on the look-out
“If It’s going up, I’ll ask my friends.”, confides another resident where around a hundred concrete blocks are still raising the furniture since the December flood. The mayor of the town is considering solutions for future floods. The peak is expected on Friday: the water is expected to reach 5.85 meters, and up to 200 houses could be flooded.
Charente-Maritime remains on orange “flood” alert on Monday.
