In Quimper, 21 chestnut trees located along the Odet docks will be shot down next week. These trees, explains the town hall, are affected by the bacterial canker which causes the death of the most fragile. It weakens the tree and allows other pathogens to degrade its wood. The branches weaken, the tree can fall completely.
86 trees planted sixty years ago
These trees were planted sixty years ago: 86 white and red chestnut trees in all, from boulevard Amiral de Kerguelen to rue du Parc. All are sick: three have fallen in recent years. In 2017, 27 trees had to be felled. Of the 86 trees, 59 remain. Among them, the 21 which will therefore be cut.
Temporary planters
Instead, specifies the town hall, temporary planters will be installed: “relatively low plants, and possibly shrubs”, wooden, triangular, for avoid interfering with cars. Another rectangular shape will also be put in place.
The city specifies that it will launch a thought on the future of the quays and in particular their revegetation.
The progress of the work
The site will take place “while moving forward”. Which means that everything will not be blocked permanently. Parking will not be possible on the Odet side, a traffic lane will be closed, as well as access to sidewalks.
