The Touraine Primeur 2022 competition was held this Tuesday, November 8 in Tours at the Brasserie L’Epoque. Organized on the initiative of Mikaël Bouquin, director of the La Gabillière estate and Kévin Vigné, director of the Beaujardin cellar, it distinguished 3 producers:
- The gold medal was awarded to Adrien Godeau of the Caves du Père Auguste (Civray-en-Touraine).
- The silver medal was awarded to Frédéric Plou from the Montdomaine estate (Nazelles-Négron).
- The bronze medal went to Cédric and Marina Chollet from the Domaine de Rabelais (Veuzain sur Loire).
The jury, made up of 12 members, professionals (oenologists, buyers, etc.), winegrowers and informed consumers, had to decide between 9 cuvées of Touraine Primeur. The usual criteria for the quality of a wine were judged: the visual aspect, the nose and the taste aspect. The jury was also asked to judge whether the wine corresponded to the typicality of a Touraine Primeur, namely a young and fruity wine and to suggest gourmet pairings.
Consumers will have the pleasure of discovering these first wines of the year from Thursday 17 November.
Touraine Primeur is produced exclusively from Gamay, a grape variety that gives it lightness and fruitiness, and is made from grapes harvested by hand. Formerly produced by 180 winegrowers from the AOC Touraine, the primeur has become a confidential quality wine made by only about fifteen winegrowers.
