The administrative court of Toulouse rules in favor of the Occitanie region in the case of the projection of caricatures by Charlie Hebdo on regional hotels in 2020, learned Saturday April 15 franceinfo, via a press release from the region.

The Coordination Association against Racism and Islamophobia (CRI) and the lawyer at the bar of Kuwait, Master Muttawa, had attacked the community and its president in court for having projected, on October 21, 2020, a photo of Samuel Paty as well as six caricatures of the cartoonists of Charlie Hebdo on the two regional hotels in Toulouse and Montpellier.

Justice therefore finally agreed with the region, considering that “the dissemination of these cartoons does not infringe freedom of conscience and freedom of worship”. The court also finds that “the distribution of these cartoons does not involve any stigmatization of an ideological or religious conviction, but aimed to affirm the principles of secularism, freedom of expression and freedom of conscience”.

For her part, Carole Delga, president of the Occitanie region wrote in this press release that the “judgment handed down by the administrative court of Toulouse comes as a strong reminder of this founding principle […] separation of church and state”. And Carole Delga to add: “In the face of extremes, whether political or religious, I will never compromise.”
