A biopic on Priscilla Presley, a new Joker with Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga or even the continuation of the “Dune” saga, cinemas will welcome many films in 2024. Here is a selection of the most anticipated releases of the year.

“Priscilla” by Sofia Coppola (January 3)

Four years after the release of On The Rocks, Sofia Coppola returns with a Priscilla Presley biopic, the only wife of singer Elvis Presley. The director paints the portrait of a self-effacing teenager who has become an American icon and explores the different facets of the relationship she has with the King. From their meeting when she was only 14 to their marriage in Las Vegas, the film looks at their common path and how Priscilla took back control of her life. A famous couple played by Cailee Spaeny and Jacob Elordi.

“Mean Girls, Lolita despite me” by Tina Fey (January 10)

American filmmaker Tina Fey offers a new showcase for Lolita in spite of myself the cult comedy of the 2000s and immerses spectators in the ruthless world of high school. The woman who successfully adapted the first version of the film into a Broadway musical delivers to the cinema, between friendship, love affairs and gossip, a modernized vision of the arrival of young Cady Heron in Chicago.

“Poor Creatures” Yórgos Lánthimos (January 17)

Black and retrofuturistic comedy, “Poor Creatures” tells the story of Bella Baxter, a character born from the pen of Irish writer Alasdair Gray in the early 1990s. Played by Emma Stone, Bella kills herself to escape her violent husband. Doctor Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe) brings her back to life by performing an unorthodox transplant that gives her a great thirst for learning. The young woman, impervious to the prejudices of her time, embarks with a man on an epic trip around the world.

“The Zone of Interest” by Jonathan Glazer (January 31)

Winner of the Grand Prix and the International Critics Prize at the last edition of the Cannes Film Festival, The Zone of Interest by Jonathan Glaze delves into the bucolic and family life of Rudolph Höss, an Auschwitz commander whose house with its flower garden, maintained by his wife played by Sandra Hüller, is located a few meters from the camp. A closed door in hell.

“Dune: Part Two” by Denis Villeneuve (February 28)

Back on the big screen with “Dune”, about Paul (Timothée Chalamet), heir to the house of Atreides, who unites with Chani (Zendaya) and the pioneering people of the Fremen to lead the revolt against those who wiped out his family. Haunted by his visions, the young boy finds himself confronted with a dilemma on which the fate of the universe rests. “Vice Versa 2” by Kelsey Mann (June 19)

Nine years after the release of the first part which won the Oscar for best animated film, Pixar offers new adventures to the character of Riley. The start of puberty upsets Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust, especially since the public’s well-known emotions are joined by a little news. Dubbed in the original version by the young actress Maya Hawke, Anxiety makes its entrance. And surprise, she’s not alone…

“Joker: Folie à deux” by Todd Phillips (October 2)

If the synopsis of the film has not yet been revealed, Joker: Folie à deux is indeed among the most anticipated films of the year 2024. This sequel to the film Joker unites the actor Joaquin Phoenix and the singer and actress Lady Gaga and seems to keep the promise of a Bad Romance in Gotham City. . The latter embodies the character of Harley Quinn, the well-known anti-heroine of DC Comics.

“Mickey 17” by Bong Joon-ho (current 2024)

The director of Parasite Bong Joon-ho returns in 2024 with an American science fiction film. Mickey 17 follows the character of Mickey. Played by Robert Pattinson, this individual is an employee sent to the frozen world of Niflheim in order to colonize it. When Mickey dies, his memories are transferred to a new body. He then understands that his mission is not necessarily what he believes. A highly anticipated film since the South Korean director makes his first return to cinema since winning the Palme d’Or in 2019.
