The government of Quebec will allow healthcare workers affected by Covid-19 to work under certain conditions.
“We have made the decision that, under certain conditions, health personnel who are positive will be able to continue working,” Minister of Health Christian Dubé announced on Tuesday.
With the lightning transmission of the Omicron variant, “there are more and more sick people and fewer and fewer people to treat them,” he explained, recalling that on Monday, around 7,000 health workers who had to be absent because of COVID-19, a number that he says is expected to increase further.
The minister also announced that starting Wednesday, all health workers, including those working in the private sector or in community organizations, will be able to get their third dose of vaccine. This will also be the case for public security representatives, school staff, inspectors from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and slaughterhouse staff for the food chain.
Quebecers aged 18 to 59 will gradually have access to this third dose, from January 4 for the oldest, and from January 21 for the youngest.
The Minister of Health takes the floor as the province posts 12,833 new infections, a record.
More details to come.
