The difficult count of the dead is being refined in Israel. On Friday, November 10, the authorities revised the death toll from the Hamas attack carried out on October 7 on Israeli territory from 1,400 to 1,200 victims. The government now believes that “many bodies that had not been identified” are those of people who participated in “Hamas terrorist attack, not Israeli victims”, explained the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to AFP. In the evening, the ministry returned to its remarks and contented itself with mentioning a “updated estimate” of the balance sheet.

The previous toll of 1,400 was gradually established in the week following the attacks and had remained stable since. The new count was first mentioned in a press release from Israeli diplomacy on Friday. “Hamas terrorists murdered around 1,200 people in cold blood and kidnapped 240, including babies, children, women and the elderly”, it says there. Such figures cannot be independently confirmed at this stage, nor can the death toll in Gaza, which stands at more than 11,000, including more than 4,500 children, according to the Ministry of Health. which depends on Hamas.
