In Nepal, filming yourself dancing and singing in front of the most beautiful tourist spots in the country is no longer possible. The application has just been banned in some places in the country by the authorities who no longer want TikTok users, such as in a famous monument in Kathmandu.
In recent months, dozens of tiktokers have come to film themselves in front of a sacred site. “They used selfie sticks, they danced, sometimes they were whole crowds using TikTok. They were disturbing this place and the people who come to gather here”, says Binod Shrestha, member of the Boudhanath temple development committee. Agricultural fields in the south of the country have become one of their favorite playgrounds, damaging farmers’ plantations. In two years, the number of users of the application has jumped by almost 2,000%.
