No longer any French metropolitan region is spared from the tiger mosquito: the Normandy Regional Health Agency (ARS) declared on Wednesday March 20 that the insect had been observed in the region, in the department of Seine-Maritime, in 2023. This presence was detected during a field survey carried out last September by the health authorities.

The ARS attempts to monitor the development of this presence on a regular basis. “When the mosquito is spotted or a case of arbovirus is declared in the territory, graduated management measures adapted to the local context will be implemented”, explains the ARS in a press release. These measures involve the destruction of nests or the implementation of insecticide treatments.

She recalls that the tiger mosquito is a potential vector of viruses, such as dengue, Zika or chikungunya. It is therefore a question of monitoring cases of these exotic diseases in the territory. “To date, no local transmission of disease linked to this mosquito has been observed in Normandy”reassure the health authorities.
