The Théo affair, emblematic for some of police violence, was followed by a week of demonstrations and urban riots, and had moved the highest levels of the State. Seven years later, three police officers will appear before the Assize Court for willful violence resulting in permanent disability. The police officers risk 7 and 15 years in prison
Questioned after his convalescence, the young man spoke: “This video shocked me. The introduction of the baton, for me, is rape.” Seven years later, his lawyer says his injuries are irreversible. The baton blow, deemed disproportionate by the magistrates, is, for the police officer’s lawyer, a regulatory and “the affected area is the result of an accident”. Two other police officers who participated in this arrest are accused of intentional violence. For this violence, they risk seven years in prison. The perpetrator of the baton attack faces up to 15 years in prison.
