Friday, November 19 marks the opening of many Christmas markets in France, where restrictions related to Covid-19 are in place to prevent the spread of the virus.
In Nantes, in Loire-Atlantique, as in many large cities in France, Christmas markets are making a comeback. A timid return, while the Covid-19 epidemic has become more and more important in recent weeks. In Nancy, in Meurthe-et-Moselle, the mask is also compulsory to access the Christmas market. Many visitors fear that the situation will get worse.
In the south of France, in Aix-en-Provence (Bouches-du-Rhône), merchants fear a precipitous closure of the markets. Passers-by and customers still stroll through the aisles of the town’s Christmas market. “Everyone has fears”, says a saleswoman. As for the largest Christmas market, in Strasbourg (Bas-Rhin), it is still not open and will also ask passers-by to wear the mask.
