A European summit began Thursday, October 21 with a large meeting of the 27 member countries. At the heart of this gathering, the Polish case continues to stir up political debates. Poland wants the law of its country to take precedence over European law, which is far from being unanimous.
During the two-day European summit, which began on Thursday 21 October, Poland sparked a great debate at the heart of the European Union. The decision of the Polish Constitutional Court, according to which the law of his country is superior to European law, is far from pleasing the member countries. After studying different responses, European countries decided to continue the dialogue to force Poland to change its position.
Poland expected at the turn
“All the member states are committed to the rule of law. With respect, there must be a dialogue and work that will resolve the problems that arise in the Polish case, we are now expecting the government to act concrete in order to avoid having to resort to all the means of pressure at our disposal “, said Emmanuel Macron at the European Council. If this fails, the European Union may not give Poland the 36 billion euros promised for its recovery plan. And, in the worst case, countries could vote in favor of a “Polexit”. Poland would therefore leave the European Union for good.
