The investigation is continuing after the accident on Sunday morning at a level crossing in Gien. Investigators are trying to clarify the circumstances of the death of a 19-year-old girl, hit by a Paris-Nevers train, while she was on the tracks driving her car. A preliminary investigation for “investigation of causes of death” was opened by the Montargis prosecutor’s office.
According to the first testimonies and analyses, the thesis of a driving error by the motorist is favoured. The witnesses, starting with the driver of the TER Paris-Nevers, saw her enter the lane, bypassing the lowered barrier level crossing, he immediately braked, but it was already too late.

Other witnesses, heard also, recount the same scene. A car that enters by hitting the barrier of the level crossing, and finds itself stuck on the track. Finally, the locomotive’s black box revealed that the train was traveling at 90 km/h, whereas it could have been traveling at this location at 140 km/h.
