The bill including voluntary termination of pregnancy (abortion) in the Constitution will be presented on December 13 to the Council of Ministers, before a possible meeting of Parliament in Congress in March to ratify its adoption, reported, Friday, November 17, several party leaders invited by Emmanuel Macron in Saint-Denis (Seine-Saint-Denis).
This text should be examined in Parliament in the first quarter of 2024. It will then be necessary for 3/5th of the deputies and senators, gathered during the Congress, to endorse the formulation, which aims to make abortion a right “irreversible”according to Emmanuel Macron’s promise.
Among the other subjects discussed Friday in Saint-Denis, the party leaders and Emmanuel Macron also discussed at length the war between Israel and Hamas, and in particular the question of hostages in Gaza. “The negotiations are tough” to achieve their release, underlined Fabien Roussel, leader of the Communist Party. Emmanuel Macron and the party leaders present also concluded that a referendum on immigration was not relevant in the absence of consensus on the subject, according to several participants.
