Immigration bill: the text causes discord among deputies
– ()
The immigration bill was presented this afternoon of Monday, November 6 in the Senate. The text is supposed to give pledges to the right and the left. But will the government still manage to bring together a majority around this text?
At the heart of the immigration bill are a few lines which promise long debates in Parliament. Article 3 in fact offers foreigners in an irregular situation working in a sector in tension the possibility of being regularized. “It’s about allowing people who have been in our territory for years, who are well integrated, who have worked for years, to be able to be regularized”recalled Élisabeth Borne.
The fractured majority
To have this text adopted, the government is counting on the votes of the right, except that among the Republicans, there is no question of voting for this law as long as article 3 remains. An article which also divides within the majority. Its left wing is appearing today with the socialists, communists and environmentalists to reaffirm its support for this measure. It is therefore a difficult path that the government will have to find, otherwise Élisabeth Borne will be forced to draw up a new 49.3.
