The government follows the recommendations of the High Authority for Health. The monkeypox virus detection tests will be reimbursed 100% by health insurance, noted the Minister of Health, François Braun, in a decree published on Saturday July 30 in the Official Journal.

Seized by the ministry, the High Authority for Health had decided for the reimbursement of the tests on Monday. She recalled that the diagnosis is based primarily on the examination and questioning of the patient, judging that “Detection by NAAT test should only be carried out in the event of persistent doubt after clinical examination”. A screening “not necessary in the absence of symptoms”she added.

Facing “development” of the epidemic, these tests should only be carried out“in the absence of a sufficiently explicit clinical picture”ratifies the government decree. “The samples are to be taken from the lesions, favoring the lesions of the mucous membranes then the skin”, he says. The “genital or anal lesions in particular” are cited as a priority, with screening by swab or biopsy. Swabs from the throat or nose are also possible.
