Heavy rains and gusts of wind hit Reunion with the passage of Cyclone Batsirai, which is heading towards Madagascar on Saturday February 5. Some victims were close to death, swept away by the elements. They witness.

The wind is still blowing strongly, Bertrand returns to the scene, where he and his tenant Marie-Paule almost died. A trench forms along the house, dug by the flooding of a ravine, caused by Cyclone Batsirai. The two inhabitants are carried away by the mud for several tens of meters, they find themselves blocked under the neighbour’s house, in the middle of the rubble. The power of the water also devastated Marie-Paule’s house.

An unrecognizable house today. The water rose a meter, leaving behind mud in every room and extensive damage. Rescued by firefighters, Bertrand and Marie-Paule are taken care of in a shelter, unharmed but still shocked. Throughout Reunion Island, Cyclone Batsirai left twelve injured.
