The mayor of Saint-Côme-du-Mont (Manche) was the target of attackers at his home, on the night of Monday 6 to Tuesday 7 December. The reason could be his support for Emmanuel Macron. The France Télévisions teams have collected his testimony.

In Saint-Côme-du-Mont (Manche), the mayor’s house is intact, but the garage retains traces of the fire: two cars burned down during the night of Monday 6 to Tuesday 7 December. It was an explosion that woke up Bernard Denis. “When I got to the bathroom, I saw a red light that was outside, so I looked, and I immediately saw that there was fire in the cars”, says the latter. In the early morning, he then discovered two tags on his wall: “The mayor supports Macron” and “Zemmour president”.

Bernard Denis’ new house, under construction, was also set on fire. Nothing to discourage him. “I am a head of bacon, so I will not stop working for my municipality”, says the councilor MoDem. At the national level, however, it plans to be “a little more discreet” in order to “protect [s]a family “. Following the attack, Bernard Denis received many messages of support, including that of the Minister of the Interior. In recent days, two En Marche deputies, from Calvados and La Manche, have received death threats which they have made public. “This type of message will never prevent me from getting involved”, assures Bertrand Sorre, deputy (LREM) of Manche.
