Incest: the testimony of a former victim
Incest: the testimony of a former victim – (franceinfo)
A child is sexually assaulted every three minutes in France. This is the finding of the Independent Commission on Incest and Violence Against Children, which submitted its report to the government on Friday, November 17.
Delphine Delaunay wrote her trauma in black and white. A first book which recounts the incest of which she was a victim as a child, and the consequences on her life. “Before, I was in survival mode. I was constantly fighting against this suffering that I did not know. Today I am more in combat mode, to learn to live”, she says. Four years ago, his life was turned upside down. Her older sister tells her that she was sexually abused by their father. Memories then suddenly come back to him.
Traumatic amnesia
“I was finally able to believe myself”, she assures. Before this revelation, this 46-year-old woman experienced traumatic amnesia. Her brain buried her memories, and she lived in perpetual discomfort. How to avoid these years of wandering? In its report, the Independent Commission on Incest recommends in particular a well-defined course of psychological and psychiatric care: 20 to 30 sessions, financed by national solidarity.
“The direct and indirect costs linked to psychotrauma and the duration of their consequences are so high that it is in our society’s interest to invest money to restore these people as quickly as possible, so that they find a place in the society”analyzes Professor Louis Jehel, head of the Psychiatry and Medical Psychology department at Amiens University Hospital (Somme).
