A man tried to set fire to the synagogue in La Grande-Motte on Saturday, where five people were gathered. A police officer was injured. The authorities denounced an anti-Semitic act.
LThe National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor’s Office (Pnat) has announced that it has opened an investigation into attempted terrorist assassinations, following the arson attack that targeted the synagogue in La Grande-Motte (Hérault) on Saturday, August 24. Shortly after 8 a.m., several fires broke out. According to the Pnat, two vehicles were “set on fire in the Beth Yaacov synagogue”A gas bottle that happened to be there exploded.
In the synagogue, five people including the rabbi were present but were unharmed. A municipal police officer was injured outside by the explosion. A suspect was spotted on video surveillance wearing a keffiyeh, a Palestinian flag and apparently carrying a handgun on his belt. He was also carrying two bottles filled with what appears to be a flammable liquid. According to initial information from the judicial police, the man also tried to set fire to two doors of the synagogue.
