In Afghanistan, a country held by the Taliban for nine months, the full veil has once again become compulsory for women in public spaces.
Afghan women are reliving the darkest hours of Taliban obscurantism. Since Saturday May 7, the supreme leader has imposed the wearing of the full veil in public space, and preferably the burqa, this blue outfit which covers the body and the face. Some women refuse this new restriction. “Before taking power, they said they would not impose anything on women. But little by little, they are showing their true face”denounces an Afghan woman.
The Taliban have already planned sanctions. “If they do not wear it, the women will be identified and punished. Their guardians, father or husband, will have to explain themselves and could even be imprisoned for three days”, announces one of the managers. In Afghanistan, women’s faces have also disappeared from posters and advertisements.
